Fascia is the "glue" that holds the human body together. Without fascia, for example, your muscles would not be connected to your tendons, and your bones would not be connected to your tendons. It actually connects everything in the body to each other.
The makeup of fascia can be broken down into three elements which are collagen, elastin and fibrin.
Collagen: (The most abundant tissue in the body) The fibrous protein constituent of bone, cartilage, tendon, and other
connective tissue. (Fascia is also known as connective tissue)
Elastin: A similar protein to collagen that is the principal structural component of elasic fibers.
Fibrin: An elastic, insoluble, whitish protein produced by the action of blood clotting enzymes on blood coagulation
proteins and forming an interlacing fibrous network in the coagulation of blood.
Myofascial release is a method of bodywork where a therapist places his or her hands directly upon the skin and gets a sense of where fascia (or connective tissue) has become "stuck". Through gentle pressure and the head of the therapist's hands, fascia can then begin to release.
When fascia becomes tight in certain areas of the body, you may notice reduced movement in the body. In addition, due to tightness to the fascia, bones or joints may even move out of alignment causing tension around nerves and discomfort.
Connective tissue (or collagen) can get tight or stuck. As a result of this sticking, muscles can get stuck together.
If your body is out of alignment in any way (e.g. one hip being higher than another, one side of your neck tighter than the other), it can sometimes be attributed to tightness of the connective tissue.

The therapist uses the weight and warmth of his or her hands to facilitate releases in the fascia throughout the body following the natural direction of the fascia.
Sessions can last anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours. Generally the average session will last 30 to 60 minutes. An initial session generally lasts between 90 minutes and 2 hours including your health history and examination of the alignment of your body.
